Cycling is a child’s first feeling of freedom discovering an enthusiasm for bikes at a young age. There is one problem; even small climbs can stand in the way of their fun, forcing them to get off the bike and dampening enthusiasm. Getting tired can bring an abrupt end to a family outing and take the shine off a great day on the bike. The remedy is here from Trond Hansen (NOR), former MTB professional, who has created an everyday tool: Kidreel. Support the project on Kickstarter!

“The idea came from everyday life when I took my son on small tours. The little one is an enthusiastic biker, but climbs are difficult for the small ones, and I had to get off the bike and push him up the hills. We developed the Kidreel in the hope of making life easier for many parents and especially children, in a simple way,” says Trond Hansen about the story behind the project.

Kidreel - ingeniously simple, simply ingenious

The simple cable pull construction is attached to the front of the child’s bike frame. Before riding uphill, you take hold of the Kidreel handle and ride up the hill in front of the little one. The spool unwinds and thus the adult becomes the motor and shares the effort. Once at the top, you let go of the handle, the reel winds itself up in no time and your little ripper is ready to go.

“My brother-in-law is an engineer and after positive feedback, also from friends, we decided to implement the idea in-line with market requirements. After detailed and comprehensive tests and further development, we can assure everyone that Kidreel is a reliable product,” explains Trond.

But Kidreel is far more versatile than just mountain biking: Kidreel can be used for walking and above all, as a simple tool to help teach a child how to ride a bike.
