GoPro Launches New HERO6 and Fusion Cameras

GoPro just held a very Steve Jobs-esque launch presentation of some rather exciting new products, and although there had been many leaks over the past couple of weeks, it was still exciting to finally get to see what kind of new creative toys these guys have been busy preparing for us. We'll keep this short and sweet and let the images do most of the talking, so without further ado, here's the lowdown on the all-new HERO6 and Fusion:

GoPro HERO6 Black

With twice the on board computing power, the HERO6 does everything at least twice as well as the HERO5. That translates to 4K footage at 60fps, 2.7K footage at 120fps, and full HD 1080 at 240fps. That's full, high-definition 8x slowmotion, right out of the box. Pretty impressive! It also boasts built-in image stabilization, which judging from the footage below looks pretty smooth (although some of the "shot-entirely-on-HERO6" launch video obviously made use of the company's Karma drone and gimbal):

The body appears to be largely the same as its predecessor, with a small overall form factor, a touch-screen, and the ability to dive down to 10 meters (33 feet) without having to use a housing.

GoPro Fusion

GoPro also unveiled it's new, 5.2K Virtual Reality spherical camera - or should we say two cameras? With two lenses housed on opposite sides of the same body, Fusion captures spherical footage that can then be used to create a whole bunch of very special effects. What we saw of the launch video looks awesome, and it's not hard to see how mountain bike film makers could have some serious fun with this one. We'll reserve judgement until we can get one in our hands to play with, notably in regards to how easy it may or may not be to come up with footage that looks this good, but it's nevertheless a clear sign that the company is not done innovating yet, and we can look forward to lots of cool new ways of sharing the sport we love in the coming years.
