Steve Wentz's Transition TR11 Downhill Bike

One fast downhill bike with FOX suspension and ENVE wheels. #shredwithsteve

Steve Wentz is a long-time downhill ripper who's ridden a variety of different equipment over the years. He's currently riding Transition frames with FOX suspension, ENVE wheels, various Gamut components and Burgtec offerings. Steve is one of Vital MTB's contributing testers and knows what works and what doesn't. When he's not racing the clock, exploring new trails or scarfing down unique cuisine, he can be found in a mini-excavator or with a shovel building trails around the world as a partner in Momentum Trail Concepts.

Steve's Transition TR11 as built for the 2018 Mob n Mojave Bootleg Canyon DH race, in his own words

  • Frame: Transition TR11, size medium, 195mm travel
  • Fork: FOX 40 Factory (but not the cool Kashima one)
  • Shock: Fox DHX2 with a 450-pound spring and a huge conical bottom-out bumper
  • Bars: Burgtec Ridewide Enduro high rise
  • Stem: Gamut Cillos Direct Mount
  • Chainguide: Gamut Trail SXR
  • Crankset: SRAM X0 DH
  • Chainring: Gamut 34 tooth
  • Shifter: SRAM X0 DH 7-speed
  • Rear Derailleur: SRAM X0 DH 7-speed with derailleur bolt filed down so the knuckle doesn't move (more precise and no derailleur loosening)
  • Chain: a cheap one
  • Front Tire: Matt Thompson-supplied Specialized Butcher front 2.5, 26 PSI
  • Rear Tire: Quinton Spaulding-supplied Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5, 26.5 PSI
  • Wheels: ENVE M930 with DT Swiss hubs. I ran higher tire pressure before but am now a couple PSI lower with ENVE's wide bead strip cushion. (Learn more about that here)
  • Seatpost: SDG I-Beam
  • Seat: SDG Ti-Fly
  • Grips: Sensus Swayze (thoroughly comfy) non-lock-on but super glued.
  • Pedals: Burgtec Penthouse Flats MK4 (thoroughly dependable)
  • Brakes: TRP G-Spec (thoroughly okay)
  • Rotors: Avid G-2 (way better than Centerline)

Steve shoots his POV videos with a GoPro Hero 4 Black and EVO Gimbal.
