Colin Bailey is a former downhill racer, inventor of the Maxxis Minion DHF tire, mountain bike race mechanic for Giant Factory Off-Road, a craftsman and an artist. So many things describe Colin, but his straight-shooting style speaks for itself. I'm honored to have had the chance to sit down with him to discuss his history in mountain biking, his career as a racer and his bigger life story that eventually landed him back in our race scene as a mechanic. Enjoy the show with a true innovator within our community. A guest appearance from Kirt Voreis adds even more fun flavor to the episode.

Hi Colin, this is Dan from the Hesperia\Big Bear\Mammoth days. I'm very saddened about the loss of your mom (I just learned about her listening to this podcast).   I still get out to ride maybe once a week or so.  We have a new ride park nearby we're very proud of so hit me up if you're ever in the Seattle area.  I also visit the Bend area every year or so and enjoy the riding there.  It was great catching up with you and Kurt though this podcast.

Yew! Memories! That Telluride photo takes me back. I was hired to do trials demos at that race through 180 Magazine but found out that they would give me free entry to the amateur race on that course. But I could only bring one bike on the tiny plane into that terrifying airport. So I brought my DH bike. So we built a Shore style set up using cable spools and 2 by 4's with a 3 foot up and bigger down to flat.I was up all night before the race because I had just learned toboggans at the dirt jumps and wanted to do one off the 15+ drop. I figured it would be the beginning of my professional MTB career. It didn't happen in the race, neither did my MTB career.

That was a reet good podcast, i also remember from the transcontinental vid that he had another nick name of the cactus kid from when Colin came off in some cactus and his dad had to pick the spikes out of his ass with his teeth.

Colin is a couple years older than me but I’m pretty sure we raced on the same dual slalom in Durango in the early 90’s at iron horse and I remember a small yeti that had me drooling.
