The French (Amaury) Revolution in Les Gets 1

As this French Alp resort's last UCI event was back in 2004 for the World Championship, we knew in advance that the crowds would be huge come Saturday's big Downhill final in Les Gets. All the riders said that the atmosphere on the side of the track was electric and that it was an insane feeling racing down the flat out track in front of them.

Now you know what an angry Momo can do! After his disappointment in finishing 4th in Vallnord the week before, Amaury Pierron didn’t want to miss the opportunity to win a World Cup in front of the French crowd in Les Gets.

Fastest time in qualies, Amaury Pierron knew he could reach his goal (dream might be a more appropriate word!). After everyone else's final run, the Les Gets track was looking massively blown out and until you are on the track, you never know if you can give enough. Stress levels were at an all time high, the French fans were on fire and it made the suspense even better!

Amaury Pierron, 1st

Up by 1.154 seconds at split 1, Amaury was giving it everything, his speed was impressively high and he managed to cross the line 2.352 seconds up on Loïc Bruni: “I was so much on the edge! I knew I had a good top part and I just tried to do what I know for the rest of the track. I was drifting and almost crashed but to achieve this is an actual dream. We worked so hard with the staff, my bike was feeling amazing and to see all the frenchies here being so happy was unreal! It’s definitely my new personal best moment of my life!”

The ‘double win’ qualies and finals gave him some good points for the overall and he’s sitting in second now equally ranked with Troy Brosnan, 110 points behind Loïc Bruni.

Rémi Thirion, 21st

The times were super tight on this track and our Mitch finished less than three seconds down from the podium: “I just didn’t push enough to be honest! The track was super blown out and it was hard to find the limits to not crash. I’m in the ‘bad second’ because everyone’s times are so tight and I would have wished to get a better result here but I still enjoyed racing on this track especially in front of the French crowd. I’m super glad for Amaury who won here, he was impressive!”

Despite his disappointment, Rémi Thirion is sitting in 15th place in the overall which is really good after 5 rounds.

Thibaut Daprela, 1st Junior

After his massive crash in Andorra, Thibaut Daprela wanted to get back on the highest step of the podium. He won qualies and finals and got some more solid points for the overall:

“I was feeling good on this track and I really wanted to win here! I made so many mistakes during my race run, I wanted to do even better but winning in France is always something good!”

The two Ruffin brothers had a blast of a weekend too! Both of them qualified and had a decent result, Gaëtan Ruffin finished 29th and Thibaut Ruffin 30th:

“Easily one of the best weekends of my life: I’m so happy for the team, everyone works so hard and I thank Amaury and Thibaut so much for their commitment to offer us those wins. On a personal note, it was really hard to find myself on the bike and I changed a few things after qualies which worked out and I’m so stoked with that 30th place, even more with Gaet 0.03 ahead in 29th! I know Rémi didn’t have the run he wanted, but I’ve no doubt about what he is capable of. All of this in front of the massive French crowd, family, friends and fans has been crazy and I’ve no words to describe how good it was! Thanks to all of you guys for this”

With all these good results, we finished second team of the day and we’re still leading the overall.

We’re spending some time in the French Alps for now and we’ll head to l’Alpe d’Huez for the French Championship next weekend!

Big thanks to all our partners for providing us with the best support and thanks to all our staff, friends and fans for the memorable times in Les Gets!
