at 0:29 Gwin and then at 1:27 Dungey ride the same section of trail. Interesting thought (for the e haters). If Moto and E bike was the same then shouldn't Dungey be faster than Gwin on that section of trail. I know if they were on Motos Dungey would have smoked Gwin down that section of trail. Gwin is good on moto, and great on bikes. Dungey is good on bikes, and great on moto.

I am no pro, just a bald has-been, or never-was, depending on how you look at it. Regardless, I still ride bikes, road, gravel, MTB and eMTB. I like my eMTB's, but I would not advocate them as a 'training tool' for pros because I have noticed when I ride the eMTB a lot, it takes away the snap/sprint I have in my legs coming out of corners, etc. It's like it retrains the muscle differently. If my old ass notices it, id assume a young agile DHer would too. But then again, WTF do I know. Cool Intense's though and man are the eMTB's fun to ride.

I am no athlete or anything but I know a few (if that counts) base fitness is built by a constant BPM , not spikes like you talk about. That's why road training is good (or now, Ebike)

I was talking about sprint/snap/quick twitch muscles and how my anecdotal findings are that my ebike does not train those muscles 'better', you're talking about base line fitness and riding road bikes, so I'm gonna go with=bad analogy.

That's not what he's advocating them for though - he says recovery days, in other words days when you want to stay in i1/i2, which an ebike is perfect for, having more freedom where you can ride on days when you need to restrict your HR. Where I live, it's all up or down, so in the past it was go hard or stay home and rest, where with an ebike I can have those intermediate days, keeping it easy but still getting to go up into the mountains and come back down on the fun trails. Julian Absalon is on the record doing a similar thing. I'd have thought it plays well with the whole 10,000 hours school of thought too - it means you can spend more time on good trails, which is what you need to achieve mastery.

I actually love my turbo Levo. I primary ride my Enduro bike, but I love getting to do all day rides in Tahoe that would just kill me on a regular bike. Frankly I’m faster DH on my trail and enduro bikes, but uphill turbos are awesome. Once they make a 30lb emtb I don’t know why I would ever go back.

Seriously though, I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Percent of people who hate ebikes before they try one: ~100%

I approach e-bikes like heroine: I'm not going to try either because I'm probably going to enjoy them and I certainly don't need them. When I'm 68, broken, and have an extra $5K lying around I may reconsider.

I hopped on one the other day. Uphills, were more fun. Hardcore DH, a little less fun because it's so heavy, but probably would get used to it.. Undulating pedally terrain was a hoot..

I think they'd be great in flat places like Florida.. It would make the whole state downhill, in both directions.

That's actually where I least like mine. They can be a bit of a pig on relatively flat stuff... Coming from moto, going down they're awesome. Stable and still flickable, it's just what you're used to riding... Obviously going up they're great. I never get the hate, isn't it about having fun? Well, they're literally, more riding, more ups, more down, more fun!

Agreed, the speed limit on them makes them boring on flat terrain (europe is limited to 25kph, i believe the US gets a bit more speed which would help). I think they shine the steeper it gets to be honest, they allows to get up stuff you would need to hike otherwise, and you dont feel the weight on steeper descents.
