This is what I do. Another tip a buddy gave me is to move the brake levers inboard as much as possible until your index finger grabs the "curled end" of the brake lever. More leverage and easier to grab with one finger without slipping.

I ran mine inborn too. It also makes it so that you're not smashing other fingers when one finger braking.

Makes you wonder if people would play around with the angle of the lever based on a track’s steepness much like handlebar height. Not drastic changes but to overall be in better line to support themselves while riding a steep track or a flatter track. Or maybe that’s too much nerdery

Not too much nerdery at all. I run my brake levers maybe slightly up from 'most' and I don't really change them. But I did go to one race on the Andorra WC track, and there I moved the levers more horizontal. It was a one time change, but that 30 second adjustment was awesome. I think that one time adjustment as opposed to always fiddling with stuff is very applicable to riders that might take a big trip to Whister, or big mountain stuff, where one time adjustment might work well compared to the 'back home' setup.

Hrmm... I was one of the riders who used to keep my levers way closer to vertical than horizontal. But I never really suffered much from arm pump. But then I'm kind of a freak at 6'7" with size 13 hands. I could stay low with a flat back and still reach my levers just fine.

I tried this flat lever thing a couple of years ago when I first saw the enduroists doing it and...got arm pump before I’d got to the end of the drive. I’d never experienced it before, I just wanted to see what it felt like (horrible for me).
I run mine fairly low too but I used to ride trials...I guess we all used to run em pretty low back in the day.
