e*thirteen Helix R Cassettes
Overall Review
E*thirteen jumped into the cassette game a few years ago, looking to disrupt the market with a unique take on how to eke out wider range from a 1x drivetrain. We’ve had good results with their two-piece cassettes to date, although we did note that shifting could sometimes be a little bit “clunkier” than with original SRAM or Shimano cassettes. The Helix R is a full redesign that looks to improve shifting performance with both SRAM and Shimano shifters, and it has managed to drop a serious chunk of weight in the process as well. The cassette hits the market today - keep reading to learn more...

SRAM X01 Eagle Rear Derailleur
Don't believe the hype – Eagle is actually a Turkey (Product Review)
The Good
Range for days, Looks the part
The Bad
Weak non-adjustable clutch can't control chain slap, numerous jams and blown jockey wheels/mech cages, sensitive B-tension. Chainring is soft as cheese. Stupidly expensive and the mech hangs down a long way.
Overall Review
I ran X01 Eagle on my bike for three months over summer. Riding a few times each week and racing 4 one-day enduros and one 6-day trans event. I had numerous problems with Eagle. Not so much in terms of shifting. It moves up and down through the the block quickly and consistently. (Though it's very important that you have and use the red plastic B-tension adjustment tool, as its B-tension quite sensitive and continually goes out of adjustment). The major problem that I found is that Eagle has too weak a clutch to control chain slap and provide effective chain retention. I also found that this...

For the last year some friends and I have been toying with the idea of riding the Colorado Trail from Molas Pass to Durango – a ride actually deserving of the word "epic." Three weeks ago we made the high-country adventure happen. We planned to tackle the beast over two days with a sag-wagon full of friends and post-ride libations to meet us in the middle. The day before we began everyone was busy ensuring their rides were ready for the challenge. "Did you swap out that 34-tooth ring?" "Damn straight, I'll take every advantage I can get!" replied my buddy, Nate Work, who, just days earlier...
