Avid Juicy 3 Disc Brake
The Good

reach adjustment is not effected by the reach adjustment. I've not had any issues with leaks, contaminated rotors, pads, or brake fluid on the master cylinder. Decent modulation, and grab. can get all parts as spares, so you can fully rebuild these brakes.

The Bad

After few years I lost power, and the bike shop bleeding the brakes, did not help, I was braking hard and brake barely braked., and the lever blade was slow to return, so it was probably a internal issue, the piston assembly probably needed to be replaced. No hinge to quickly swap brakes. No can't...

Overall Review
So I the brakes probably could have been rebuilt to work again, but I left them at the shop. and shop managed to get Shimano M615, but those leaked in less than 2 years.

Avid Elixir 3 Disc Brake
The Good

Insanely cheap brake with proper stopping power. Reach adjust is nice and this brake is actually great for a budget build.

The Bad

Super hard to dial in correctly for the same lever feel on both sides.

Overall Review
I bought this brake for just 35,- EUR for a set and I put it onto my rigid fork daily driver. For this use its probably more than needed and therefore delivers great stopping power. The additional reach adjust is pretty nice to have even when it is not tool free. After a full bleed on both brakes I also managed to get the lever feeling right on both sides, this takes some time. Fortunately replacement gaskets and pistons cost 7,- EUR ordered online so an overhaul of the whole caliper is not expensive. A full service set for the levers is also cheap to get. Verdict: If you can get the Elixir...

Avid G2 CleanSweep Rotor
The Good

Strong, durable, good value

The Bad

Noisy, real noisy.

Overall Review
With each disc brake, there needs to be a rotor. Just like all the disc brakes out there, there are a ton of rotors to choose from. That being said, below are my impressions of the Avid G2 Clean Sweep Rotor, ridden on Avid Elixir R brakes: Out of the box: The Avid G2 Clean Sweep Rotor has been around for quite a number of years and has really get a standard for what a rotor should be. Made from heat treated steel, they are built to handle all the braking force you can throw at it. It comes with a nice vented design that is meant to cool the braking system as quickly as possible while reducing...

Avid Elixir 5 Disc Brake
The Good

Stopping power is applicable for downhill shredding. Decent lever feel. Alignment isn't too difficult.

The Bad

Bleeding is more involved than most brakes, you might decide to make it your bike shop's responsibility. Materials are cheap. Durability and dependability have been put into question by many forum warriors.

Overall Review
I've had a pair of these stoppers for three years, since they came stock on my Glory, and despite what many people would expect, I have had zero issues. The front caliper got really stuck once when I had the wheel off so the bike would fit in the back of my cramped and rack-less vehicle. That's not an exclusive flaw with Elixir 5's or Avid brakes. In three years, you want to know how many times I had to do any maintenance on these slowie-downies? Twice. That's right. One uneventful alignment exercise and one bleed. Just one. After three years of abrupt application and irresponsibly timed...

Avid X0 Trail Hydraulic Disc Brakes
The Good

if its the only thing you know they are good

The Bad

once you try others you will want to switch

Overall Review
When owning these they seemed like they work just fine, the longer levers were cool and the match making system was simple. Well that was all fine and dandy but once you start a new relationship you look back and say ehh. These brakes did the job with the common braking and modulation you hear about. In my experience they seemed to fade, not all to easy to maintenance and they were temperamental. They were light enough and the 4 piston is a positive as to where people rock these on their trail bikes but imo there are far better brakes out there. I personally prefer shimano and now have 4 other...
