Race Face Turbine Stem Ø31.8 100mm
Rating:
The Good
The Stem is well machined, no sharp edges or burrs. but due to the weight reduction holes it’s probably not the best stem for Carbon Fiber bar.
The Bad
The bolt got rounded off when I tried to undo the bolt, it had to be drilled out. This is not the only product from Race Face I had issues with bolts, the bolts on 4 of the Race Face Turbine dropper posts got quite worn quite fast too. Similar to the Atlas stem bolts loosened quite fast, but I haven’t ridden with this stem so hard, so I can’t really compare how this stem do with hard riding compared to Atlas. But both are robust stems, that handle MTB well.
Overall Review:

As this was used on my old hardtails, they were not used much, so I did not get a lot of time with this stem.

You need to follow the torque specifications or the stem the stem will spin, it needs to be quite tight, so you might need a torque wrench to get it tight enough, unless you get used to so high torque as most stems don't require this high torque.

You can see some of the coating of that the handlebar had got stuck to attached to the stem, not permanently of course.

Trail stem that needs one update

Looks great. Does not creak.
The Bad
Steerer clamp bolts break due to design. Not made in North America
Overall Review:

I ran this stem on my MTB for a few seasons and quickly found that the bolts that clamp the stem to the steerer can break if your torquing the to spec. I work at a shop and have seen this issue many times now. It looks like the notch in the stem is too wide and when you tighten the bolts, it creates a lot of stress in the bolts.

The stem has now been moved to my commuter so I can run them "under torqued" without worrying about it.

This stem is a work of art! Beautiful, strong and lightweight. Also, good range of sizes for just about every rider.
The Bad
Retail price is high, that being said, there are several online retailers that you can buy it from for cheaper.
Overall Review:

Bought this stem a while back along with the turbine handlebar (725mm) I went from the stock 75mm stem to this 60mm and I LOVE it! Its very stiff and strong, I weigh 230 lbs and have NO issues with flex the shorter reach was actually pretty dramatic change in feel, but for me it was a good thing, quicker steering response and no noticeable change in climbing prowess. Great looks just seal the deal! I'd buy again in an instant.
