Function
The first cool thing about these pedals is that you can break them down without any tools. Straitline did some really neat engineering on this project. You could find a rock just about anywhere that would be enough of a tool to break these down. I didn't end up needing to do any service on them during the 4 years, but it is nice to know you can do that if you need to. The 14 pins on each side of the pedal will keep you glued on to the bike. You better hope you stay glued on because the pedal bite from these will take some serious skin off your shins. They are a bit heavy but I would definitely suggest them to anyone with an aggressive riding style. They sent a few extra pins which was nice because I did loose a few (probably my fault for not using enough locktite).
Durability
I rode on these pedals for 4 seasons, which ranged from pedaling xc to riding the park at Whistler. These pedals held up to it all. I had them on a Trek Slash, which had a medium low bb. With the thicker profile of this pedal, you might have more strikes on a bike with a really low bb. The color held up pretty well through all the abuse as well. They were well worth my investment.
