Five Ten released a several new pairs of shoes for a variety of sports at a recent tradeshow. The highlight for bikers? The new Cool Hwip clipless shoe with a Karver inspired lace cover.

Love my Minnaars, not sure on these jury out I hate SPDs personally but need it on the SS for some extra pull, I only wear clipped in on my SS 29er, everything else is flats and Stealth Sam Hills plus it helps my technique when back on flats better cadence and smoother and stronger too , 5:10s one of the best innovations in last 10years, love that company, just don't wreck a good thing guys, if it aint broke it don't need fixing.

Having sticky rubber soles are a HUGE plus if you ride trails with rocky creek crossings and hike-a-bike sections. Stuff that I encounter on almost every single ride in western NC. I would also like to see a shoe with a small mesh hole on the front and back of the shoes to help drain water!

are some of you's really missing the big reason why riders want a v10 sole even when clipping in? Well as a clipped in rider, I was really excited when the Minnaar came out and I am just as excited now because when you clip out, you don't always get clipped in straight away and the 5.10 sole allows you to have a lot more grip on the pedal compared to another brand of clip shoe.

Why a clipless interface with 5.10 soles? Cause it sucks walking in most other clipless shoes, with their super hard lugs that you end up walking on the tips/edges of your shoes with? I dunno, it's been a while since I've been on clipless, but I think that's one reason why I didn't like it.

I'd like to go back to clipless one day, but not with roadie shoes with lugs attached to the underside.

redride...there are plenty of people that don't ride clipless and prefer platform pedals, myself being one. Teresa, who runs the Mtnbikegirl.com blog doesn't like clipless pedals either (and neither of us ride DH or FR). however, cycling-specific shoes are better for your feet, because they usually have a much stiffer sole than regular skate-type shoes. so 5.10 is filling a definite niche, not to mention the fact that they've got several bike shoes that aren't clipless, so this certainly isn't the first model like that.

the fact is that clipless pedals have been studied in at least two scientific settings (one included over 20 cyclists, both professional and amateur), and the discovered the clipless pedals almost never provide any measurable increase in pedalling efficiency, even with pro's. the "efficiency" thing is a marketing tactic more than reality. their biggest asset is keeping your feet in the "proper" position on the pedal, which a lot of people like. in a roundabout way, i guess they do KEEP you a little more efficient in the sense that your feet don't move around like they do on platform pedals, but it's not providing anything "extra"...if that makes sense.

i'm not saying clipless pedals are bad, just that there are plenty riders in all styles that don't like using them. i've tried clipless pedals and really don't like them, so it's nice being able to buy bike-specific shoes without having to deal with the SPD plug on the bottom (which is often screwed into the sole and can feel weird on platform pedal studs).

is it because l.0 is soooo "IN"? even if u dont need the sticky rubber... u still want one? "W"... i ride flats and will still buy em... no other real choice.

Matty, hahaha... u funny guy! yup i knew about the Minnaars and even then I did not understand why u would need the stealth if you are clipped in...
