Intro Text

The weather held for a big portion of the first race day at the Enduro World Series in France. As stage 3 of 4 was underway, the rains came and kept thing interesting. Richie Rude, showed up like it was 2013 and dominated winning the first three stages and Cecile Ravanel ran precise and predictable out front in the women's class once again. Raewyn Morrison took her first stage win, keeping the women's racing exciting and Sam Hill is still in the hunt. Rain is slated for day 2 which is on steep, technical and tricky terrain...when it's dry. Sven Martin and @maddogboris deliver day 1 of 2 goods from France.

Richie Rude is back. Back in a big way. Three firsts, followed by a mysterious 183rd. Thankfully that 183rd was on the minute-long urban stage 4 making it insignificant. Good to see him back on it. -Sven Martin
Jesse Melamed. What a bummer. Sitting in second, riding so well all week and a crash on stage two resulting a broken collarbone. Heal up quick Jesse and steal the show in Whistler again. -Sven Martin
GoGoGo Flo! The frenchman definitely knows how to ride the tight corners in his home country. 4 more stages to go and he´s just 26 seconds behind Richie Rude. @maddogboris
Sam Hill levitating through the rocks on stage three. Just five seconds off the podium with the steepest and most technical trails still to come tomorrow. It's pouring rain now and we remember how he slaughtered the slop in Colombia a few weeks ago. Game face. -Sven Martin
And as you can see he really enjoys the riding here in France! Post-race face. @maddogboris
Caro sitting in second. Her bike has some new bits if you can spot them. -Sven Martin
First time stage winner Rae Morrison through the tunnels and arches on the "urban" stage four through the medieval part of the village. -Sven Martin
Martin Maes quietly holding fourth place ready for more tomorrow in the wet and cold. -Sven Martin
Youn Deniaud didn´t had his best day. Let´s see what he can do tomorrow in the rain. @maddogboris
Isabeau Courdurier with the 4th fastest overall time after day1! @maddogboris
Santa Cruz Rider Mark Scott sitting in 6th position after 4 stages! @maddogboris
The forecast at 10 this morning was spot on. Thundershowers at 4pm while riders were on stage three and then rain while they were on stage four. Pray for Dunc. -Sven Martin
Orbea rider, Gabriel Torralba, mixing black and white with a bit of green in france! @maddogboris
Dimitri Tordo on the hunt for Theo Galy! These are Theos hometrails but a mechanical held him back. @maddogboris
Sam Dale sitting in a respectable 21st position about to throw down some power! -Sven Martin<br />
Damien Oton had a big over-the-bars crash in stage two and despite his 45th in that stage, he sits in seventh for the day still within striking range of the podium. -Sven Martin
Damien Oton going down hard on stage two. -Sven Martin
Katy Winton in third (again) but this time with Caro Gehrig in front of her instead of Isabeau. -Sven Martin
Mitch Ropelato having too much fun on stage two. It seems the more fun the riders had on that stage the worse they did. He came back on stage three though. -Sven Martin
Greg Callaghan sliding around the loamy goodness of stage two before the rain came down. -Sven Martin
Robin Wallner a bit off his usual pace but still looking good. It is super hard to judge your speed and pace on these tracks. -Sven Martin
Royalty from all over France came to spectate. #GOAT -Sven Martin
There are always one or two new faces mixing it with the top players at each round this year. This time it's Camille Servant who is a regular top finisher in the French National Enduro series. -Sven Martin
Cecile on the long stage three, goggle already pulled off around the three-quarter mark. The rain making the already tricky conditions treacherous. -Sven Martin
Ines Thoma is not 100% well, but happy with her 6th position so far. Shirts and shorts yesterday. Warm, waterproof jackets today! @maddogboris
Adrien Dailly, just 11 seconds behind Rude and 15 ahead of 3rd place, Florian Nicolai. With Rude and Dailly in 1st and 2nd, it looks like results of seasons past. -Sven Martin
Mark Maurissen with a welcome end to the first day of racing. -Sven Martin
Colin Bailey knows more about tires, tire design and tire cuts than anyone else in MTB. That's a fact. (Cough, cough, he designed the Minion DHF). So if he decides some sipes are in order, then hand him some cutters. -Sven Martin
Elliot Heap with a healthy 10-second lead in the junior division, smashing rivers on stage one. -Sven Martin
Ines Thoma on stage one which had a mix of open, rocky, balcony trail and tight wooded singletrack. -Sven Martin
Unlucky for local favorite Theo Galy suffering a mechanical on the long stage three. @maddogboris
U.S. Junior and winner of the TDS Enduro, Duncan Nason in 2nd, just 10 seconds behind Elliot Heap. @maddogboris
Yes Caro! As we said yesterday, she's on fire and wants to make her sister proud. Second place for the Swiss rider! @maddogboris
First EWS Race for Melanie Pugin and 5th position! @maddogboris
What can we say? We love Team Pivot Factory Racing! @maddogboris
We havent´t seen many flats so far. Guess Sam Flockhart just had a bit bad luck! @maddogboris
Brit Racer in a French Jungle! @maddogboris
Numberplate 35 on Position 35 with a 1/35 sec panshot! Ruaridh Cunningham. (P.S. photonerds should know that 1/35 is actually not possible. but 1/25sec is pretty close.) @maddogboris
Just don´t take an umbrella with you and don´t wipe your lens in the pouring rain...your shots will become "arty". @maddogboris
Seems like urban racing is becoming a part of this season and so is getting close to walls. Doesn't matter if DH or Enduro. @maddogboris
Happy Florian Nicolai with a well deserved refreshment! @maddogboris
Sam Hill playing it safe and keeping it easy. Nothing to lose except everything when the entire season is on the line. If anyone can play sniper in the wet, it's the guy in this photo. Sunday will be interesting to say the least. @maddogboris
Richie Rude ready to pounce tomorrow. Stay tuned for the conclusion in the wet! @maddogboris
