Intro Text

A break in the weather made for a nice day of qualifying at the 2019 Fort William World Cup downhill. The long, unrelenting track proved to be quite the challenge for the fastest mountain bikers on the planet. Plenty of usual suspects for finals found themselves sitting it out Sunday with a position that was 61st or slower and a handful of protected Top 20 riders ended up on their faces. Dig into the goods from Sven Martin, @maddogboris and Dan Hearn with racing right around the corner.

Often the smoothest riders are the quickest, especially at a venue like Fort William. Definitely true of Loris Vergier today who qualified top of the list. -Dan Hearn
Tracey Hannah on a storming run today out in front by a good margin. They have been out of the main pits away from the chaotic, fan-fueled Ft William limelight and it seems to be working. -Sven Martin
Thibaut Daprela is a force to be reckoned with in the junior category, pulling out a 2.4 second lead over second place. -Dan Hearn
Vali Höll doesn't like us comparing her times to the Elite Women, so we won't mention she would have qualified 5th. @maddogboris
A close 2nd for Amaury Pierron to make it a French 1-2. Plenty of roll-off practice today to prepare for the deluge we are expecting in finals. -Dan Hearn
Marine Cabirou was one of the few girls who jumped this section. A well-deserved second fastest time for her. @maddogboris
Luke Meier-Smith of Australia smashed his quali run to qualify 2nd. -Dan Hearn
Desperate late huck and chuck in front of a bloodthirsty road gap crowd. -Sven Martin

Brookie Mac on the attack. (3 am slide caption writing). -Sven Martin
Brook all glazed over after the long interview with Boris. @maddogboris

Unlucky #13 (Don't worry it was a save!) -Sven Martin<br />
Loic's alt-line timing system. He rode one section three different ways, pushing up each time during one practice run to take away the guesswork on what he would use in qualifying. -Sven Martin
3rd place for Troy today in qualifying, the same as his 2018 race result. -Dan Hearn
Greg getting comfortable with Top 10 speed again today. After qualifying he went up the track to find even more time. A podium contender for sure. -Sven Martin

Three generations of Santa Cruz. Roskopp, Peat and Bowman. -Sven Martin

Much much better dirt conditions than yesterday. -Sven Martin
Antoine Vidal sixth place qualifier for the Junior EWS series leader. -Sven Martin
Family affair with a big day out hiking on the slopes of Anoch Mor. -Sven Martin
