Lars Sternberg's Transition TR450 Bike Check

This is the first time Lars Sternberg has ridden DH since breaking his leg back in May and we couldn't be more stoked! On to the bike check... Photos and audio by Tim Zimmerman.
Lars rides a medium 2011 Transition TR450 that gets 8-inches of travel.
The bike comes in between 39 and 40lbs. Lars has been working with Transition, developing the TR450. They believe a durable bike is more important for customers than a feather-weight bike.
Lars likes to tinker with his bike. Constantly adjusting, cleaning and tweaking is his style.
It's taken Lars 20 years of riding to fully realize the benefits of a well-maintained bike.
Adjusting bar height via stanchion placement keeps Lars happy on a variety of terrain.
Kore Torsion bars with 35mm of rise, trimmed down to about 30-inches are on all his bikes. His trail bike bars are a little narrower. A 50mm Kore Direct Mount stem keeps things secure.
Lars runs one of two Fox RC4 rear shocks, depending on conditions and courses. The internals are 'different' but he could not give us details.
A 450lb Ti spring from Fox keeps the weight down. Lars rides a firm set up for racing, but during the off-season, he'll back down to a 400lb spring for less-aggressive riding.
A Fox 40 RC2 fork with 203mm of travel keeps his front wheel planted and Lars thinks we're not listening as he glosses over the internals.
A combination of Shimano Saint and Dura-Ace parts make up his drivetrain. 165mm cranks and 11-21 cassette keep it compact.
Shimano Saint brakes keep him in check on the steeps.
36t Chainring up from on his 165mm Shimano Saint cranks.
Prototype Maxxis Descendant tires. These are what we now know as the High Roller 2 tire, but Maxxis was toying with a different name for the tire earlier this year.
Prior to running the Maxxis High Roller 2 tires, Lars was a Minion DHF 2.5 3C user. In mud, he'd swap to Wet Screams and runs about 28psi in the rear and 24 up front. Photo David Tufino.
Repping the U.S. and Australia...
Lars runs Crank Brothers Opium DH wheels. 12x150 rear and 20mm front, tubeless compatible.
Though he's riding with tubes at home, he'll configure a tubeless set up when the condition dictate. 'It's like having little feelers out there...'
Pretty sick for not riding for 4 months. He hopped on his bike right away, even though the settings on his bike were ready for the U.S. Open, not his home trails.

LARS RULES! Glad you're back on the bike!
