XX1 and Avid sweep World Championships Podium

September 3, 2013 - Schurter, Fumic and Hermida use SRAM XX1 and Avid XX to take Gold, Silver and Bronze in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa at the 2013 UCI World Championships.

As Pietermaritzburg hosted the first ever Mountain Bike World Championships held in Africa, Nino Schurter (Switzerland - Scott Swisspower) defended his rainbow jersey with a commanding victory that gave him his second consecutive XC Elite Men’s World Championship title. Manuel Fumic (Germany - Cannondale Factory Racing) and Jose Hermida (Spain - Multivan Merida) would closely battle it out behind Schurter for the entire race. Recovering from an early season injury that left him out for the majority of the World Cup, Fumic would slowly grow his lead in the later part of the race eventually finishing a marginal 14 seconds ahead to claim the silver medal, with the 2010 World Champion Hermida joining Schurter and Fumic in celebration right at the finish line. Schurter’s victory marks the second World Championship title for SRAM XX1, and the first ever podium sweep by athletes racing on XX1 and Avid XX brakes.

The XC UCI World Cup has one more round in the series that will take place in Norway on September 14th. Schurter, who leads the World Cup series will surely be ready to defend his overall lead in hopes of becoming the World Cup Champion once again after his success in 2012.
