Press Release

UK to Host Enduro World Series Stop in 2014 1

The make-up of fourteen national teams competing in the Enduro of Nations, taking place at Val d’Isere on the weekend in conjunction with Round 6 of the Enduro World Series, was announced on August 24. (See http://www.enduroworldseries.com/national-teams.php for details.)

Team France is favoured to win in both the men’s and women’s contest, but the range and strength of teams, with 10 nations represented in the men’s contest and 4 in the women, promise an exciting race within the race.

Team Great Britain, which is fielding a strong team in both the men’s and women’s contest (which includes the Overall Series female leader Tracy Moseley) is enjoying an additional boost from the news that they will have the chance to compete on home turf in 2014.

The Enduro Mountain Bike Association has announced that TweedLove Bike Festival UK will be part of the Enduro World Series line-up for 2014, with the race taking place 31 May - 1 June.

The four year old festival has grown to be one of the United Kingdom’s premiere bike celebrations, encompassing 30 separate events across all disciplines of cycling. Located in the renowned Tweed Valley, a part of the world famous for its mountain biking, the TweedLove Bike Festival has also run two very successful Enduro races, the POC King and Queen of the Hill, that showcase the region’s great trails.

EMBA Director and Round 6 host, Fred Glo, says, “Here at the Enduro of Nations, we are witnessing for ourselves how international Enduro racing is becoming, with top teams and riders competing from all over the world. We are really pleased to expand and explore into new countries and being able to announce that the TweedLove Festival in the Tweed Valley, Scotland will host a round of the 2014 Enduro World Series is fantastic for us. The UK is home to so many great mountain bikers, so to have this event and riding location in our 2014 calendar is a perfect match.”

Joe Barnes, currently the top-ranked male UK rider on the Enduro World Series, will ride for Team Great Britain this weekend. Barnes says, “This announcement means a huge amount for British riders. We’ve been travelling the world for the World Series in its first year. For the second year, for it to expand and take on new countries, and for me, to come to my home country, means a huge amount.”

Gary Forrest will ride alongside Barnes for Team Great Britain in the Enduro of Nations this weekend. A Tweed Valley resident, and the winner of the TweedLove Enduro 2013, (winning all five of the stages of the POC King of the Hill), Forrest is enthusiastic to showcase the natural riding available in his back yard to the world’s best mountain bikers. “It means a lot to bring an event back to the UK,” he says, “especially to the Scottish Borders and Peebles region because it’s such unique riding there.”

Committed to bringing the world’s best riders together to compete on the world’s best trails, the Enduro World Series will announce its full calendar for 2014 on Friday, 30 August.

Val d’Isere is the sixth of seven stops on the inaugural Enduro World Series. Finale Ligure hosts the final event, 19-20 October 2013.
