Rotorua, NZ, Friday, March 31st – Reed Boggs and Casey Brown are the names to remember for the 2017 Official Oceania Whip Off Championships presented by SPANK here in New Zealand at Crankworx Rotorua.

From 26” wheels and slopestyle bikes, to 29” wheels and full suspension DH rigs, the Whip Offs were once again a testament to the true spirit of the world’s biggest MTB festival! The only event where freeride legends, DH racers, Enduro competitors and slopestyle athletes all come together with one common goal; “Shut up and Whip!”

After two days of rain, the event had to be postponed but the tension and excitement for the 2017 Whip Off here in Rotorua was bigger than ever before as the local crew started rigging floodlights in preparation for bringing the crowds the first ever night whip off of the Crankworx World Tour.

This year's Whip Off jump was built by the local Empire of Dirt crew, creating a real monster of a jump with a height of 6 meters at the lip, 8 meter step up and a total length of 15 meters kicking the 59 competing riders high into the air.

While the sunset slowly changed into darkness, the crowd of a few thousand spectators went wild as the party lights came on and the whip offs went sideways in moto supercross style!

Finn Isles, 2016 Official World Whip Offs Champion shows the crowd why.

But in the end, it was Reed Boggs in the men’s category with an impressive whip who claimed the victory.

“I’ve never been this happy ever riding my bike. The crowd’s energy was just fueling me – I was just a kid riding his bike and having the most fun.”

The winning mindset from a stoked Reed Boggs.

In the women’s category it was Casey Brown who yet again whipped the jury with her sideways steeze.

“It’s just so good to be up in the air again and hit this awesome jump.”

Next on the agenda will be The Official European Whip-Off Championships presented by SPANK in Les Gets, France from June 14-18
