Highland Mountain Bike Park and Tilton School Announce “Tilton at Highland” 1

Tilton, N.H./Northfield, N.H. – Highland Mountain Bike Park and Tilton School today announced the launch of “Tilton at Highland,” a program dedicated to enhancing the power of potential for aspiring high-school-aged mountain bikers.

Student-athletes participating in the program will be enrolled full-time in Tilton’s independent, coeducational, college preparatory environment, including all facets of academic, residential, athletic and school life. Additionally, they will receive customized individual coaching at Highland’s state of the art facilities, specifically geared to meet their personal goals.

"For more than 165 years, Tilton School has believed in the power of potential in its students, and this belief lines up almost exactly with the mission of Highland Mountain Bike Park," said Head of School Peter Saliba.  "Both organizations want their students to reach their highest potential.  For us, we meet kids where they are, advance them in all facets of life, and know they leave Tilton equipped to realize their fullest potential as human beings.  Highland applies the same philosophy with their approach to teaching and coaching, and that's why I'm so excited about the future of this partnership."

Highland is world renowned for helping mountain bikers take their riding to the next level in a safe, controlled environment. Riders travel from all over the world to train at Highland’s state of the art facilities including The Highland Training Center, the Ayr Bag, numerous jump parks and miles of trails, both downhill and cross country. Highland is America’s Bike Park.

“Highland’s driving mission is to provide a park that is built around ‘training and trails.’ We build trails and provide training for first time riders to the best riders in the world and everybody in between,” said Mark Hayes, owner of Highland Mountain Bike Park.  “Now we have the ability to add academia to the mix with the Tilton at Highland program. Combine Tilton School’s ‘Power of Potential’ with Highland’s ‘trails and training’ and the industry just might start seeing a new breed of inventors and innovators. This partnership has a great vibe and I’m psyched Highland and Tilton are paving the way for the next generation.”

The program is modeled after an experience had by Tilton School rising senior Alex Fletcher ’14.  Fletcher, a native of Los Gatos, Calif., and a passionate freeride downhill mountain biker, was in search of an independent school setting with a personalized learning approach within close proximity to a mountain bike park.

“I was wandering, I didn't have a direction.  I found mountain biking, I fell in love with it, and I wanted to progress, but I also wanted to do the same with my schoolwork,” said Fletcher.  “And I'm similar but different with all the kids here in that way. The difference is mountain biking is an action sport."

The Tilton at Highland experience is customized for each individual student-athlete to meet his or her own personal goals. Training programs will coincide with school time activities allowing riders to train hard while achieving academic successes.  Ride where you learn: Tilton at Highland.
