RESULTS: Timed Training, 2017 Lourdes World Cup Downhill 4

27.5 still on top!

We've heard the rumors of DH 29ers being faster, but timed training at the 2017 Lourdes World Cup was the first public documentation of what advantages they hold. Santa Syndicate riders Greg Minnaar, Luca Shaw and Loris Vergier were on the 29-inch-wheeled bikes while the rest of the field ran 27.5-inch wheels.

Timed training is a special session of practice for the Top 80 Elite Men, Top 10 Elite Women and Top 10 Junior ranked riders on the circuit. The sessions gives riders a chance to push closer to race speeds with distraction-free, top-to-bottom runs. Pushing race pace is not mandatory and there are no points at stake, so results from the runs are only an approximation of true race speeds.

Gee Atherton, fastest in timed training.

Read the results below and do some analyzing. What a race this will be!

Gee Atherton, 1st

Danny Hart, 2nd
Bernard Kerr, 3rd
Aaron Gwin, 4th
Remi Thirion, 5th
