RESULTS: Jesse Melamed and Cecile Ravanel Lead EWS Madeira Day 1

A familiar foe in the women's, and a new name for the men - things are shaping up in Madeira after day one.

It's been an up and down kind of day here in Madeira for day one of the third race of the 2017 season. Against a backdrop of some of the world's most scenic views, the world's best took the hills under blue skies and good auspices. But the ground here has teeth, and most of the top contenders would learn at some point during the day - punctures are setting the tone so far. Jesse Melamed is holding the overnight lead, but Adrien Dailly has won three out of four stages and is mounting a serious challenge. In the women's Cecile Ravanel is back in familiar territory with four stage wins out of four so far, she already holds a commanding lead over Isabeau Courdurier. Israel's Noga Korem is on track to confirm and better her 4th place finish in Tasmania with an even more impressive third place here in Madeira. Tune in tomorrow to find out who comes out on top!
