From time to time we receive some truly wild press releases here at Vital. HPC's new "downhill fat e-bike" falls into that category. Prices range from $13,000 to $18,400. With up to 3000 watts of power beneath you and a top speed of 45mph, it's fair to say this doesn't meet your standard e-bike classification... Have a read and let us know what you think.

Los Angeles, CA (May 2018) — Hi-Power Cycles, the innovators and leaders in electric bicycles, is proud to announce the newest evolutionary step in their flagship Revolution model: the HPC Revolution AT.

The Revolution AT is the world’s first off-road exploration bike. In fact, the Revolution AT is the first in a whole new type of bike: The Downhill Fatbike. When people object to E-bikes this is the worst case scenario they envision.

And so the thing that the E-bike fans said could never happen, has happened!

Its a motorcycle, get over it, get it off our trails.

I mean for the price point, you should just buy a moto (or 3)

Its lame.

...but the sub 100 pound electric DH mountain bike with 2.6-3.0" tires will replace the enduro moto in the next 10 years. Yeah, I said it.

I dont see DVO letting them buy forks for these bikes very long. Unless it's a special E bike spec. Bicycle forks are not designed to withstand the forces a 75 pound powered vehicle would be putting through them. Huge lawsuit potential.

Ehhhhh, I doubt that. Let the real engineers chime in, but I'd wager the forces a pro level DH rider puts on a DH bike is no different than joe-blow riding a 75 pound e-bike.

EDIT: I'd say the real liability is Team Robot seeing you on that thing and pummeling you...

No.. You could buy a used Mtb bike, motorcycle and dirtbike for that price..

The photo of the guy riding it says it all. 3000watts and I will only wear a open face helmet. This is the mentality of the people who would buy this. Hope the Darwin effect takes care of it

It's an electric motorcycle with a pedal actuated throttle. How is this even relevant to our sport?

Would i ride one? Abso-*******-lutely, I'd give that monstrosity a blast any day! Would i buy one? Not a ******* chance...
I'm sure its a blast and all, but i'm completely content with my old 13 gambler and no desire to go any faster, the argument for going back up is moot, as its probably cheaper even in the long run to do uplifts...

I just gota plug trials motorcycles here. 150 pounds, 300cc, all the travel and torque you'd ever want. Who the hell would buy an e-motorcycle for 13-18k when you can have something better for 7-8k.

Any time someone buys a fat e-bike like this - they should give them a complimentary free hat that says: Complete A**hole

It’s for when someone catches you on normal trails and accuses you of riding a moto

You know what, I'll be that guy. I would for sure ride one of these. But not as a replacement for anything bicycle related. With a bit more refinement a sub 90lb electric trials moto would be really cool. The ALTA is still a full size MX bike at 270lbs. Thats a lot more bike to wrangle than something like this.

Just like electric chainsaws if you can do away with the hassle and mess of lugging around gas, oil, and do away with the giant maintenance requirements why not?

Caveats:
1) It should be pretty damn clear to anyone that THIS kind of e-bike does not belong on anything but moto trails.
2) This idiot should get some proper gear. It is not a 100mm XC bike.

HELL NO!!!!!

I'd give it a rip. Probably a blast, in much the same way 4-wheelers and dirt bikes are crazy fun.

I wouldn't want to see one at my trails though.
5/5/2018 12:01pm
Simply to see how it compared to a moto, I'd give it a try, but its not an e-mtb by any stretch of the imagination. Its an engineering experiment and should go no further. You should not build something because you could, but because you should and this should not.
