I'm looking to upgrade my wheelset on my Bronson. My local shop has a set of reserve27's in stock with i9 hubs, or I can order the reserve 30 with i9 hubs with up to 3-4 month wait. I run a 2.4 Minion DHRII in the rear and 2.5 Assegai in the front for trail/enduro use.

Do I buy the 27 or order the 30's? I plan to keep this wheelset for several years.

Thank you for your help.

Good question - technically your tyres are optimised for the 30s so I would go for those. Having said that, some DH & Enduro riders run wide rubber on EX471 rims @ 25mm inner width.

1. I doubt I could feel 3mm difference.
2. My OCD would demand I got the 30mm

Order the 30’s. You’re going to have these for many years what’sa little wait gonna hurt in the grand scheme of things. You’re going to wish you got the 30’s later on down the road anyway

Order the 30s definitely, that’s what I’ve been riding. 27s would change the profile of your tyre, making it more rounder.. something you would notice when you ride.

It's also worth mentioning the 30s are going to be a little tougher than the 27s. 30s are marketed as an Enduro wheel while the 27s are marketed as an "in between" of the XC 25s and the Enduro 30s. Depending on your riding style and where you ride that might help with the decision.

QBP has the 30's in stock. They should be the same price at Retail Pricing as if they get them from Santa Cruz. They don't have the I9 hub but the DT350 hubs. Looks like July for the wheels with the I9 hubs.

I prefer 27mm rims to 30mm rims, but Shawn's point is valid- the 30 will be a tougher rim.

As far as WT tires being "Better matched to wider rims," that is 100% marketing gobbledygook. I've mounted non-WT 2.5 DHFs to wide rims and to narrow rims, and I've mounted WT 2.5 DHFs to wide rims and narrow rims. I think I'm pretty picky, but I couldn't feel a difference and my calipers couldn't measure a difference.

I don't touch on the 30mm vs 27mm topic but I did just follow my initial Vital review with my own. The rim has lasted since launch till now (almost 3 seasons). IMPRESSIVE. Whatever you pick you are getting something you can have for a long time, so (like the scene in Indiana Jones with the Holy Grail)...chose wisely

Watching Jeff's video reviews, I mostly just want to go ride all those trails scattered throughout the mountain states.

Thank you for the replies. I ordered the 30’s yesterday.
