I'm with you on Minnaar, he always seems to want a bigger bike and he's one of the taller guys on the circuit.

I think a mixer would be best. 29er up front and 27.5 rear. Like my trail bike! But I say 3 29ers.

He qualified for MSA in 2007 on a version of that bike, first 29er to race a WC. It definitely had Nevegals though I'm not sure they even had DH casings at the time. I believe he was running a Fox 40 with some file work done to the crown to make the tires fit. I can't remember if he had the 'gear box' version or not.

MSA was also the debut of Decline Team America (f*ck Yeah!), in it's original far-less-than-factory form, for which Alex was also the founder and chief UCI rule-skirting mastermind.

I'm not certain about Jee. However, Cole Picchitino has been spotted multiple times on a Session 29r, so Trek had definitely been developing one. I guess we shall see. . .

I saw this bike at the Mountain States Cup race at Angel Fire in 2007. I don't know the guy, but we were parked next to each other and he asked to borrow a tool and we got to talking. Naturally I had some questions about the bike, how it rode and so forth. He said it was working great before, but that he thought he had broken the shock because he could no longer get full travel out of it. Even with no air in the shock it would only compress about 2/3 of it's stroke. Turned out that the chain was too short. I think he had broken the previous chain and threw on a spare not realizing it was shorter, if I remember correctly. Something like that anyway, because clearly he understands how suspension works and didn't install a short chain on purpose. Definitely an interesting bike, and the Chris King Headset top cap pivot hardware was a nice touch too.

I think that's called a "79.5er"

29" + 26" = 69er
27.5" + 26" = 67.5er
29" + 27.5" = 79.5er

Thanks guys. The way downhill has evolved from late 90's to now has been the magical time of the sport. I still watch and race DH at angel fire bc it's not sanctioned and still affordable.
This inedible is on its 4th remake of this same frame as a 27.5 PLUS coaster specific. 150 front hub on back and a Offset crank spline.
It is like a class of downhill that will be for line purists and dirtbags the break there crap and can't cobble there bike together for a Race run with a chain bc there to poor. This is my IG if you want to follow and see a lot of Lycra and chicken posts.

2.35 Kenda nevegals with a second bead and casing only in there. I didn't flat that race run but munched my sprocket coasted down 1/2 the track to 73rd. Was disappointed but seeing team decline come to full effect with the help of all the riders on the UCI team and Scott Hart made it a weekend to remember!

Sorry to derail the thread.
I think there will be 5 riders top ten on 29's. And a lot of tire skid marks on the seats of them!

I hope every bike in the race is a 29er.

That way we can enjoy half the field going off track in tight turns (especially the shorties), more broken wheels throughout the day than we've seen since kovarik, and brakes boiling over. Not to mention I'm sure all those tires are up to speed.

It's been far too boring the last 10 years actually watching everyone finish runs on well-developed, matured equipment. Racing should be determined by whims in marketing. Everyone from the 90s knows that.

Rewind 3 years or so and the same things were being said about those awful 275 DH bikes that no one wants to ride...

I guess for anyone who stills enjoys taking the piss out of enduro racing as well as 29ers, you can thank those guys for refining the tires, wheels, and geometry the past few years so the DH guys can enjoy a couple extra inches too. I'm not sure why they'd bother though, just look at how bad shorter guys like Strobel struggle on the big wheels. It's basically hopeless.


**Full disclosure. I've swallowed all the kool-aide and have a Yeti 29er en route
