what do you guys run for all-mountain tires? i have WTB mutanoraptor 2.4's right now, pretty stoked on them...they're predictable and roll well, but am curious to see opinions from you all on your trail bike tires.

how do you balance the desire to run aggressive treads w/o having to drag them up to the top?

my "XC" hardtail has an Ardent (2.4) up front and a Larson TT (2.35) in the back. great grip for all-around riding and low rolling resistance. sometimes a more aggressive tread in the rear on loose climbs would be great, but otherwise good combo.

maxxis crossmark on the back and a high roller on the front, perfect combo for all, but the sloppiest of conditions

Minion EXO DHF, its a 2.5 but pretty darn light and tons of traction. Minion 2.35 DHF or High Roller 2.35 rear. They dont roll like XC tires, but the trails I ride them on require some meat for the descents, so I just deal with the added heft of these over a 2.1.

Maxxis minion f 2.35 for normal whistler trail riding, if i am doing something a bit more crazy, I run specialized butcher sx tires, which are possibly the best tire i have ever used!

I think most people round here run 2.3-2.5 as the trails here need grip more than rolling, we will all suffer on the climbs to make the descent more fun!!

Specialized purgatory is a pretty sick AM tire. Light and rolls fast but agressive enough to inspire some confidence on descents.

I've had good luck with maxxis advantage and larsen TT 2.25's as well.

Specialized clutch on my trail bike, you can get it in three casing options depending on how hard you want to blast. Little bit slower rolling than a larsen TT or anything, but not enough to make too big of a difference since your descent will be that much more fun.

Maxxis Minion EXO, either compound, depending how much of a baller you are. I am willing to spin these tires to the top, because the DH is what I build my rigs for. The newer Bontrager FR3 is pretty schweet comprimise. As for XC racing or long distance trail rides, I would use something less aggressive that rolls better. ie Crossmark and/or 29.3 TLR.

2.3 Weirwolf up front, 2.1 Weirwolf out back. If its dry, 2.2 Wolverine in the back.

Highroller Lust 2.35 on the front and a Crossmark Lust 2.25 on the back. Just enough sidewall to not flat.

No mention of Neve's so far? Surprising. I am currently running Nevegal 2.35s on my DB Mission 2. I run Minions on my Sortie Black as PNW dirt calls for taller knobs. For super-dry summer epics, I have had great luck with the (lighter weight) Weirwolf 2.5 front and Weirwolf LT out back (RIP - that is a great tire) on the Sortie. Nevegals were great for park duty this year.

Maxxis Highroller 26x2,35 50a, soft enough for descends but still compotent to climb. Works in wet and also for dry. The weight is nothing i thought about when i chose thes tyres but it´s not for a weightweenie. Over all the greatest tyre so far for AM according to me.

Was rocking some WTB 2.5s... Muntano raptors maybe? Casing was pretty thin, pinch flatted more than I thought was necessary.

Now I'm on Intense Edge Exdc Lites, 2.5 size. I like a fatter tire. And look, climbing sucks. There's not much that is going to make it more appealing to me, at least not at the expense of sacrificing my comfort and control on the way down. The day I start changing or buying parts to specifically make the climb better, I'll buy an XC bike Wink

For AM I like my Ardent/Advatages...the 2.4 is a bit big. The 2.25 is bigger than a Minion 2.3".

The ardents are pretty good, but not quite enough on the local mountain trails... I run those on my DJ. The all mountain rig runs Maxxis DHF 2.35" and High Roller 2.35" treads, never anything else. Nevegals just don't cut it in my mind, and the WTB treads break-out in hard corners too much (tho I haven't tried the latest versions), the Maxxis rubber just grips and I love it. Yeah, they're not the lightest available, but I run a coil DHX5 on my trail bike so obviously I'm not so worried about weight.

Love my 2.35 Small Block rear and 2.35 Carter Excavator front setup. High volume and fast.

I live in Chile and we have rough mountain around Santiago, I use all year long Maxxis High Roller 2.35 UST front and Larsen TT 2.35 UST on the rear, good handlig and digger on the front and fast roller on the back with larsen TT and just a couple of flats, during the year

Weir wolf 2.3s are the shit.
I'd have to agree. I put on a set of the new Weirwolf 2.3's with the ramped side knobs. Have held up really well so far. I have only ridden them on dry, rocky trails, but they hook up really well. Had the Specialized Eskars and Mutano Raptors on before. The Eskars did not track AT ALL, and the Mutano Raptors didn't have enough meat to them.

I would like to try a set of the Minion 2.3 EXO DHF

After some dabblings with various single-plys, I realized they were never going to cut it. Most of my riding features some kind of gravity fun, so I just feel better knowing that I don't have to worry about tyres. Minion DHF/DHR in 2.5 for me...

Most of the summer I ran a single ply 2.5 Minion EXO front converted tubeless and either a 2.35 UST HighRoller or a 2.2 UST Crossmark out back.
At the beginning of the year I moved between a 2.5 and a 2.35 Intense 909 EXDC single ply up front, tubed.
Tried to convert the 2.5 Intense to tubeless but it burped Stan's like a sick newborn.

Stick with the Mutano Raptor 2.4, after trying a wide range of tires Its become my go to tire for AM/trail riding/Super-d racing

It seems resistance is your biggest enemy, Rolling resistance is your biggest problem with all the scaled down DH tires, ie.. minions . the center tread of the Mutano Raptor provides fairly unparalleled efficiency for a 2.4 tire. This combined with the low weight make it a very, Pedalable tire. I even used the mutano for a while in the Maxi avalanche. I did however switch to high rollers for the race, not a bad choice of tire either. still a little high in resistance

im currently running nevegal 2.35 front and rear. i like them quite a bit but i do believe my next set o tires will be some specialized clutch's in the control casing! look like super sweet am tire, ready to blast!
