If you mean the 22 tooth, you would need an 11 or ten in the back. Though not many, if any MTB companies go below a 12 tooth. I run 22-11 by using a generic single speed hub (Specialized, Novara, Woodman, etc.) fitted with an Odessey 11 tooth one piece driver. Just swap out the bearings, loose the spacer and it bolts right up. For a standard 12 tooth rear, a lot of jumpers use a 25-12 ratio. It's close to the standard 2 to 1 but with a little more sprint power.

I have two Novara (REI store brand) and one Planet X hub set up that way and I know that at least the older Specialized ss hubs were the same. I didn't see any of those in Chain Reaction. But they do have the Brave hub and the NS hub which both come with a ten tooth standard. That would make for a 2.2/1 gear ratio with the 22 in front, which might be a touch on the steep side for me, but some people like to mash those pedals.

yer righto, so then if im running the 26 on the front, will a 12 be a touch on the topspeed rather then acceleration? or would 14 be better

With a 26 on the front, half that would be 13 for a 2 to 1 ratio, which is a bit more spun out than some like. So the 12 should be just about right for topspeed. The 14 would be too low but good for gate starts. A 25-12 though is probably the most popular combo.

Again, try a Specialized shop. I think that they've been doing a 25-12. But it might be with BMX cranks, which are a clean option for single speed use. I run Profiles myself.
