Round 1 - Open Shimano latam - Cerro Catedral 1

The Open Shimano - one of the most prominent mountain bike downhill races in Argentina - took place Saturday 1st of February on the slopes of Cerro Catedral under the auspices of Catedral Alta Patagonia and Shimano Latin America, as well as with the support of the National Ministry of Tourism, National Ministry of Tourism-Culture and sport of Rio Negro province and Emprotur.

Because of the weather conditions the event was reduced to a single day, this allowed for a better experience for the riders, because the rainy weather during the days preceding race left the trail in the best conditions. Riders had time to train in the morning, followed by qualification runs for all categories and afternoon finals.

In the Master PRO category Marcos Mallmann was the winner, champion of 2013 and a serious candidate for the win this time too, he got the second place in the classification behind another local rider Martin Raffo. However roles shift and he showed why he is the Pan-American champion by leaving Raffo in the second place, followed by Millalonco in third, Pelegrina in forth and Rodríguez fifth.

Noel Zucchelli took the win in Elite, while Ramiro Maio was second and Nahuel De la Mano third. In the Master B category Gaston Lara was the one with the fastest time of all the Open Shimano Latam adults.

In Master A1 Agustín García didn’t have a rival because he won by almost 15 seconds. Cadets are considered the sports future, here Alexis Goenaga was the fastest with no doubt, he was followed by Sesto Leonardo and Valentin Ricca.

Emiliano Melo was the fastest minor. Local MTB legend Leonel Sauma was the day’s best Master in A2.

The ladies category once again saw Camila Nogueira from San Martín de los Andes in first place, followed by Andrea Farias from Chile, while Katie Holden from the USA got third place, María Beveraggi from Bariloche came fourth and Maria Jose Angulo fifth.
