@daway Yeah for sure I imagine most people would be happy to learn it’s slacker than stated but the fact it isn’t crazy slack on the chart was a major factor in my decision. I’m riding in UK bike parks and they tend to consist of tight corners and steep lips, slackness isn’t the best way to go.
I’m speaking with Commencal who’re being very receptive but would love to hear some measurements from you guys if you get bored enough ;-)
I’m also gonna get some solid numbers all round and crunch em to see if I can figure out what’s up.
My best guess is that the geo chart should simply state the head angle at 63° rather than 65°...seems unlikely I have a frame welded 2° out but then the Supreme DH is 63°
I dunno. Just wish I’d got a Gambler if I’m to be stuck with the slackness.

Hey dude, I finally finished my build and have a query for ya if you don’t mind. I’ve measured and remeasured my head angle at 63° rather than the stated 65° and the wheelbase is a corresponding 10mm longer than the geo chart....the BB is right where it should be from the chart at 10mm drop.
Although I built it from the ground up it’s the same spec as an off the peg bike. Lyrik 180, 230x65 shock, tyres both the same DHR2.
Seems to me Commy got their numbers wrong. Or something wrong with my frame. Seems a simply case of the wrong head angle on the chart?
Is this something to do with why they discontinued them?

The height it's at in the photos is as low as I can get the OneUp 150mm in there without the cable mechanism binding on the HPP pivot. A KS Integra 150mm might go lower (my original 125mm Integra could slam down) but I don't know for sure.

Ok thanks man. I want to iliminate chain growth as much as possible to enable running the shortest cage mech possible. I dig what you say about the chain:chainring contact though, that was also one of my first thoughts.
How low can you get the oneup dropper?

Nice bike man and enjoyed the detail in your descripsh.
I’m just building one myself, considering using a lower chain guide to help alleviate chain growth. Wonder if this is what you’ve aimed for too and whether you’ve succeeded?

Kwapik is mostly correct. I’ll have to try a Transition to validate my internetting opinions if nothing else.
Roots - totally agree. Choice was really my initial sentiment. If everyone does a transition then we’ll have no choice so I applaud anyone not playing the longer is better/ more stable is better game. And any chance to rag on Transition.

I doubt it. Mr. Dawson bases his opinion on the fact that he tried his own "sbg" project on a Nukeproof 29er with an angleset and reduced offset fork. Since it didn't work for him and he didn't care for it - Transition bikes are gimmicky. And I don't doubt that the Nukeproof didn't...more

I’m not opening this can of worms but for small-medium size riders the sizes are fine. It’s tall riders that benefit most from increased reach figures - and granted I never look at the larger sizes so maybe I should start to when critiquing bikes I know little about on the internet.
But head angles and offsets - that’s straight up gimmickry. It feels novel, not better. Maybe, maybe the way some riders ride and particularly the terrain some riders ride will lend to the super stable slack, high trail designs but if anyone in the U.K. or anywhere with tight and twisty trails with real corners rather than motorways and giant banked turns thinks that’s a good way to go about things then I wanna ride your trails!
If they did all you’re asking it’d just be another Transition, trying so hard it hurts. Take a moment and consider there might be riders out there who think the bikes already rock - I know I did before transition ruined there bikes!

Kinda nice to see one of the few brands that seem interested in refining their designs rather than just add 25.4mm to the reach and make the head angle 63°

I wonder if the good folks over at Transition Bicycle Company have ever laid eyes on Santa Cruz’s color schemes?

Why does it drive you crazy? If someone likes a smaller bike for a smaller rider, how does it affect you? More options, better for everyone.

A 27.5 and 29 aren't the same bike though. Why can't I get a M 29? I understand what you're saying, just don't agree

I really don’t think it’s possible to over state how awesome the inside line is. Another fantastic listen, another huge bite of insight. Just truly love listening to this stuff. Would also love to hear from Neko!

Cool, Im just about to put one together. Not sure whether to go 26 or 27.5...think your awesome build may have me convinced. Like the pivotal saddle too.
