Added reply in a thread UCI World Cup DH nerd question re: 60 qualifiers 5/11/2020 9:31 AM

Digging into my memory banks, 1. Brendan Fairclough crashed in quali and finished 70-something at Pila in 2005, finished 3rd in the race 2. Mark Beaumont crashed and finished 77th in quali's in Vigo in 2007, won the race. Rain in the finals was a factor. ... more »

That makes a ton of sense that a longer bike would put your body in a different/more horizontal position. Seems like it'd be the same if you ran a super tall handlebar height- you'd want flatter levers to compensate. Also makes sense why BMX bikes that have shorter top tubes and lower handlebars feel weird with a flatter brake lever.

Height could have something to do with it. Remy, Loris, and Yoann are flat brake lever guys and they're all pretty short. But Florent Payet is 9 feet tall and he runs them pretty flat, too.

Dave, that's the idea. With fresh pads and a thick rotor there would be nowhere for the pistons to retract to, thus closer bite point. Sounds like it could work. Imma try it and let y'all know.

Tried flatter levers, always felt awkward to me. Maybe if I rode in the Alps or Squamish every day. Agree you should try every setup but personal preference does factor in.

And if you want to get really weird, you can run an 11 speed SRAM shifter with a 12 speed SRAM eagle derailleur so the derailleur accepts the big range cassette. Wonder if you can mismatch Shimano shifters and derailleurs, too.

This makes me happy for all those mid-to-low-range mountain bikes! This range now has good suspension, good brakes, good wheels, good droppers and a good drivetrain. I hope the price of bikes are low to spread the fun.

reseRved, have you noticed a change in feel at the lever with your bigger rotors?

With the steep ST angle, steepish HA, and super low BB, I also think you could put a bigger fork on here with no real downsides.

Has anyone tried running 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes, or on any other brake system designed for 1.8mm rotors? I'm sure this is the worst idea ever, and I'm sure there's a very good reason why this won't work, but I've got tons of clearance on my pads ... more »

At least no one price gouges like that in mountain biking.

That was amazing!

I feel the long bikes didn’t work back then because the small wheels would “push” too much. Not enough weight on the front wheel with its small contact patch.

Interesting watching the riders hitting their knees on their grips a few times.

Fake news in the race pits is older than EC riding a “Mongoose” downhill bike.

Its been perfect for me. Ive torn the ligaments and dislocated my thumb and can barely shift on a cold morning with a regular shifter.
I dont understand why its so hard to figure it out, especially when you can switch it to your preference

FWIW I was talking about road bike di2. The buttons felt identical and I could never remember which was which. No idea for MTB di2.
