I recently made the switch from clipless to flats. I already had a pair of the Shimano AM9 clipless shoe, which are identical to these other than the sole, so I decided to give the AM7 flat pedal shoes a try. I hear so much talk about the Five Ten shoes, but they're very expensive, I've heard the soles are super grippy but wear fast, and I think they're ugly. So far I'm loving these Shimano AM7 shoes. They lace up comfortably, have lace covers to keep the laces out of your chain and keep the mud out of your laces, and also have a velcro strap at the top for quick adjustment of how tight you want them. The raised cuff on the inboard side also provides some protection from the chainstays when the trails get gnarly. I'm very happy with the grip provided by the Vibram soles, matched up with my Crank Bros Stamp 3 pedals. The only pedal slips I've had were on standing climbs when I was tired and using poor form. Overall I'm really happy with these and would highly recommend them.
