Surprising All Rounder
Rating:
The Good
Excellent descender, surprisingly capable climber, excellent performing build kit, tubeless kit included, proper large sizing
The Bad
Cost is relatively high for alloy frame and X1, some flex from separate upper maestro links, some noises and creaks
Overall Review:

I've had my Reign 1 for around 3 months now, and the bike continues to get better as I continue riding it. It's so good on the downhills my Demo 8 is for sale, and it climbs as well as many smaller trail bikes I've ridden. The Pike dual position air I've found to be a great asset, as with the fork in 130mm mode the bike feels like a much more aggressive trail bike making getting round feel much more natural, and extended climbs much easier. On the descentsyou can forget about finding the easiest line choice and instead plow through the harshest yet most direct route.

The sizing would seem quite large, and the top tube figures are quite long but don't be fooled, the bike feels the like its sizing would suggest. I'm on 6ft and I love the size of my large. The custom offset Pike is something I'm still not sure on though, as it makes the bike's handling very fast for its size and is phenomenal once at speed, but at slower speeds I find it has a tendency to over-steer on narrower tracks. The Monarch RC3 is another item I think has good points particularly when hauling down some gnarly terrain, but can be too active yet somewhat harsh mid stroke at slower paced riding.

Only real gripe is the noises coming from the pinned PG1180 cassette, and the general creaks coming from the linkage/bb area. It's quiet as long as you're prepared to keep the linkages, seat tube, and general area clean and free of dust, and I recommend applying anti-seize to the hanger and thru-axle area.

I'd easily say this is the most all-round capable bike I've owned that never feels out of its depth!
