Pro Bike Check: Martin Soderstrom's Specialized P3 Signature Hardtail 1

After a hectic weekend of competition at Vienna Air King, 2012 Vital MTB Rider of the Year, Martin Soderstrom gave us a quick rundown of his limited edition Specialized P3 Soderstrom hardtail.

If any bike ever looked ready for triple tailwhips and big air, this is it. The only real modification that Martin makes to his bike is sandwiching a grip flange between the cranks and bb shell to keep the pedals from spinning during tricks like tailwhips and supermans.

Martin's NC-17 Sudpin III S-Pro pedals feature a Ti axle.

The most interesting feature on Martin's dirt jumper is the Trickstuff Trixer hydraulic detangler. Instead of running an extra-long cable, pre-wound for his competition runs, Martin can add extra barspins or tailwhips whenever he feels like it. And we've seen Martin vary his runs from double variations to triple variations without batting an eye.

Martin worked with Specialized to create the signature graphics and frame color for his pro model P3 which is available to the public.

Low-profile, fast-rolling tires are a must on any dirt jumper. Continental Racekings keep him flying.

Martin runs his fork at 120mm which is on the long side of travel for a lot of dirt jumpers. Most riders run 80 or 100mm, but with how big Martin goes, the extra travel and slightly slacked out head angle can be an advantage at speeds needed to hit massive jumps.

2013 is still fresh upon us and Martin has proven he's ready to battle for the overall on the FMB tour this year. At the time of this writing, he current sits in 4th overall with the biggest events still ahead.

Enjoy his 2012 season recap and get stoked to see more from the steezy Swede in 2013.
