Intro Text

We're not sure if the conditions, the distance, the trail diversity or the lead changes were more dramatic. Epic racing from Madeira, Portugal, at the Enduro World Series.

Greg Callaghan making no mistakes and keeping it pinned throughout the weekend, straight to victory (aboard a 29er). -Sven Martin
Cecile Ravanel, what can we say. Over a minute clear of her nearest competitor and still going for broke every stage. -Sven Martin
Damien Oton keeping it all together like a seasoned veteran into 2nd place today. So many incidents cashes and mechanicals for all the top riders made the two days of racing a true battle. -Sven Martin
Isabeau Courdurier didn't think she could win here so she did what she had to do to secure second spot. Smart riding. -Sven Martin
Jesse Melamed smiling and definitely the fastest down the slippery, sketchy chute on stage six by quite a long way. Too bad it all came apart the very next stage. Great riding though, Jesse. -Sven Martin
Jerome another top ten despite a flat tire and losing a lot of time yesterday. -Sven Martin
Noga Korem holds onto her third spot from yesterday. Impressive riding from this new(ish) enduro rider form Israel. -Sven Martin
Mark Scott will get his podium one of these days. Right up there about to strike today but then he sliced his tire on stage eight and had to baby it home with all sorts of taped-on gel packets and a tube on a few more stages. -Sven Martin
When shit hits the fan it hits your hands too. Mark Scott after wrestling with his tire after stage eight. He somehow held onto 13th spot regardless. Never give up. -Sven Martin
The feed station was next-level today. Martin Maes took a a load off while others loaded up on coffee and Poncha from the bar/cafe. Well, only one rider loaded on Poncha needing some pain relief. -Sven Martin
Cody Kelley disproving the myth that you can't get or have style with the wagon wheels. Get off the internet you anti-29er keyboard warriors. -Sven Martin
Some custom Madeira love from Rockshox. -Sven Martin
Matt Stuttard went down hard in training. He's about to break his pelvis from this crash on the flat-out, fast and legit stage seven. Heal up. He was flying. -Sven Martin
Beers and burgers on the beach, AKA "the Spirt of Enduro." Big guys Ryan Gardiner and Paul Van Der Punt, brothers from different mothers and continents. -Sven Martin
Craig Evans keeping it wet. -Sven Martin
Yep this is racing on stage one. For some anyway. A good mix of physical and tech on this BIG course here in Madeira. -Sven Martin
Sometimes you are alone in race runs and other times it's a deafening crowd buzz. Ryan Gardiner prefers the former. Stage one. -Sven Martin
Media Squid Photo Bombing a Barelli bike check. Cocktails and beers on the beach for less than a Euro a pop. -Sven Martin
Sam Hill was always just right there both days. Another Top 5 and sitting pretty in the overall. -Sven Martin
Jared Graves just missing the podium and wishing stage three had a different outcome. Stage three and and stage seven changed the results drastically this weekend. Mostly from flats and a few crashes. -Sven Martin
Winning teams today - 1. Cube. 2. Commencal. 3. Ibis. -Sven Martin
Casey Brown, 6th today but with some rad riding and good stage finishes along the way. -Sven Martin
Ines Thoma takes a tuck-and-roll and misses the podium this round. -Sven Martin
Adrien Dailly led the race at one point. I think but he suffered a flat which took him out of contention. His pedaling also let him down on stage one and five. There's a big future ahead for this young protege of Vouilloz. -Sven Martin
Theo Galy, 7th just half a second behind Richie Rude. Not a bad result for Damien Oton's reliable teammate. -Sven Martin
If this was Pinkbike, this would be today's opening spread photo with some emotive text laid over and a semi-clickbait title. -Sven Martin
Miranda Miller with a stage win. Who would have thought that would have been possible in a flower shirt? She usually prefers 100% black head to toe and now joins the small field of EWS women's stage winners. -Sven Martin
Richie Rude came to the party late today, taking a few stage wins and getting ready to kick his season off in his usual fashion. -Sven Martin
Banana Rama Matt Walker taking a dive on slippery six. -Sven Martin
NFG -Sven Martin
Mark Maurissen checking the gears of Maes' race bike before the final day. -Sven Martin
Keegan Wright from NZ. You will keep seeing a lot more of this young Kiwi who is starting to get results mirroring those from his hometown of Rotorua. A couple of second place finishes for Keegan this weekend. Barely saving it here on seven. -Sven Martin
Martin Maes went into the final stage just two seconds off Greg Callaghan. He didn't want to know the times or gaps or his position. He just chose to ride as he does. He pushed hard, had a crash but still held on to 2nd. Great comeback from day one's racing. -Sven Martin
It was such a shame we wouldn't get to see if Adrien Dailly could have pulled back the time today. Another casualty from stage six. -Sven Martin
Caro Gehrig along the cliff tops of the insane stage eight. Do yourself a favor, treat yourself to a trip to Madeira. Now. -Sven Martin
Anita Gehrig on her way to the Juliana Poncha stand at the bottom of stage nine. -Sven Martin
Greg Callaghan brings it home outside of Ireland. -Sven Martin
Florian Nicolai keeping the spirits high despite his mechanical at the end of stage nine. -Sven Martin
Juliana and Anka Martin treated all the finishers to a local delicacy - Poncha!!! -Sven Martin
Maes hesitates LOL. -Sven Martin
Elite Men's podium from one of the wildest EWS stops to date and definitely one of the most adventurous. -Sven Martin
See you a little further North into the Atlantic. Next stop Ireland. -Sven Martin
