First Look: 2014 Giant Trance Advanced 27.5

We were sent out to Park City, Utah to test the brand new 2014 Trance line of bikes. What's new, exactly? Aside from other improvements, in perhaps Giant's “boldest move in company history,” they've bumped the 2014 line of off-road bikes into 27.5-inch mode.

Clockwise, the Trance Advanced 27.5 line includes the 0, 1, SX, and 2 models, all with carbon framesets. They're also available in the aluminum variety.

Why the move to 27.5? Giant breaks down the move with the help of their athletes in this intro video...

One of the slides mentions that Overdrive 2 stems are available from PRO, FSA, Giant and Ritchey. I can only find the ones from Giant and Ritchey. Can anyone confrim PRO or FSA make stems for overdrive 2?

Unfortunately I forgot my tape measure, however I can confirm the BB height is in a nice place. The Trance SX stands slightly taller with a 160mm fork but felt really stable in corners (thanks to the sturdy front end) so the difference in BB height wasn't noticeable. The Trance Advanced 0 was the weapon of choice for our long rides - neither bike gave me anything to complain about and to be honest I've never been so attracted to a 140mm trail bike. PS, I was once a total skeptic of 27.5!

Uncle Cliffy
how about shock i2i and stroke? i've read they use the same shock as the reign (200mm x 51mm) with a 10mm spacer but that puts the average leverage ratio at 3.4:1 which is insanely high these days. wondering if it's really a 200mm x 57mm (reign x spec) with the 10mm spacer or a standard 200mm x 51mm which makes the most sense...

The shock is indeed a 200x51. I heard about the spacer too, so I'll have to deflate the one in our shop and see what happens...

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

Also I think that 57.8% of giant 29er Buyers are going to be pissed off that they bought bikes in the wrong wheel size last year.
