Silver Star Bike Park opens for Bonus Weekend

It is being referred to as the best conditions in the bike park this summer! Despite the rain and lightning and thunder bikers were not put out by the rough conditions presented by Mother Nature for the Bonus Weekend. Not even the pelting rain that fell at times could deter the large number of DH riders stoked to start off the lift access season. Overall, everyone was in high spirits and very excited to be back riding the bike park. “We noticed a lot of dirt caked grins on every trail”, noted Cam Sorensen, bike park director. Sorenson also added that the bike park has a bit more snow hanging around at the top of the mountain than this time last year. Almost all the trails were open for the Bonus Weekend with a few exceptions where the ground was too soft for biking. Luckily with the resort closing down for Monday to Friday (June 25-29) it gives Trail Crew time to get the few closed trails open and ready for full operations opening on Friday June 29.

Trail Crew definitely deserves a pat on the back and a pint or two for the monumental effort of getting the park ready for this Bonus Weekend. They promise to have the park in exceptional shape for next weekend when the Resort reopens for next weekend starting with the first of our NEW Friday night Extended Play. The Bike Park will now stay open for BOTH Wednesday and Friday nights. Friday Nights will also be Ladies Nights at Silver Star. Two-for-one night lift tickets for the fairer sex and everyone can meet local coach and bike aficionado Claudia Sorensen at 5pm at the ticket office for a free group ride and get tips on biking every Friday night. There will also be specials in the Saloon like Burrito & Beer.Silver Star Bike Park will reopen June 29, 2012 for seven days a week operations until September 9 and then reopen for an end of season Bonus Weekend on September 15 & 16. Make sure you check out the exciting lineup of events at Silver Star this summer including Elevate Mountain Bike Camp (July 2-6) hosted by Matt Hunter, Thomas Vanderham and Graham Agassiz, BC Cup race #4 on July 21 & 22 and Freeride Festival August 25 & 26. As well Silver Star has started new non-mountain bike activities this summer like Frisbee golf and Geocaching.
