Why Are They Blowing Whistles?

The whistles are all about safety at a downhill mountain bike race.

Those whistles you hear in the Vital RAW videos from the UCI World Cup DH races aren't hordes of fans trying to be annoying. Downhill mountain bike races have course marshals that use whistles to alert spectators and nearby competitors that a rider is coming through a section of track. World Cup downhill races in particular have many stationed course marshals and these whistles can be heard the entire way down the course during a rider-filled practice session. It's part of racing and keeps everyone safe and something you'll hear in our Vital RAW videos from the UCI World Cup Downhill races.
