Race Report: Northstar's Boondocks DH Race with Trail Head Racing

This past weekend racers descended upon Tahoe for the second race in the Northstar Downhill series: Boondocks. Boondocks is one of Northstar's more tame downhill trails, but the high speeds up top, some tricky lines, and harsh in-and-out of shadowy tech sections made for an exciting race and some very close times. I would describe all the parts of the course for you, but for Boondocks we strapped a GoPro on the head of THR's Michael Cofield to take you through his race run on his Specialized Stumpjumper EVO to 2nd place in CAT 1 18-29.

Jeremy Schwartz just turned 14 and moved up into CAT 2 14-17, where he took 3rd aboard his Demo.

Mikey Sylvestri took the fastest time of the day with an incredible 3:38.75. The next 4 fastest riders: Ryan Condrashoff, Parker Robinson, Kyle Hogan, and Todd Renwick, all came down within about a second of eachother but 5 seconds off of Mikey. Mikey was out shredding during awards and sadly missed the podium.

Mikey Sylvestri: 3:38.75

Ryan Condrashoff: 3:44.10

Parker Robinson: 3:44.47

Once again, Adrienne Evans stood atop the podium for the Pro Women followed by Shauna Carlen who has been closing the gap on Adrienne every race.

Adrienne Evans: 4:53.46

Shauna Carlens: 5:06.77

The Junior Experts also had some quick times, with the top 3 holding a solid lead against the rest of their category

Warren Kniss: 3:54.68

Dillon Santos: 3:55.79

Jason Bohl: 3:57.60

Trail Head Racing saw a couple podiums with Michael Cofield getting 2nd in CAT 1 18-29 with a time of 4:00.84 and Jeremy Schwartz coming down in 3rd for CAT 2 14-17 with a 4:10.42. Mechanicals plagued the Tognetti brothers and after racing in the Ashland Mountain Challenge the day before and driving through the night to make it to Northstar, Ashton was happy to make it down in one piece.

Tyler Hansen and Michael Cofield on the CAT 1 18-29 podium.

Brian O'Connell, Austin Fotinos, and Jeremy Schwartz making up the CAT 2 14-17 podium.

The next race will be on the newly rennovated Sticks and Stones on July 27th and we hope you all make it out to Northstar for the next race!
