Bonded Seams and Vibram Soles for Pearl Izumi's New Kicks 2

Fresh new SPD and flat pedal shoes from Pearl Izumi.

Recognizing the growing percentage of flat pedal riders, which Pearl Izumi currently estimates to be around the 40% mark, they've come up with several flat pedal shoe designs that mesh well with the company's style. What you see here first is the X-Alp Launch, which features a dual-compound Vibram outsole and a very sleek fit thanks to seamless bonded joints throughout the shoe.

Pearl Izumi recognized that most shoes tend to come apart at the stitch which is why the decided to go with this seamless design. The toe and heel are heavily reinforced for protection and durability.

Also new is the X-Alp Launch SPD, which features an overall design similar to the flat pedal Launch with a 3/4-length shank for added stiffness.

Finally, the X-Alp Elevate brings the added performance of a Boa adjustment system to the SPD design. It also features some aggressive tread-wear on the bottom for added traction while hiking.

The new shoes fit in well with Pearl's Versa line of apparel which is meant to be versatile gear intended for any bicycle rider, regardless of discipline or duration. We were particularly intrigued by the minimalist liner shorts which could appeal to those who prefer not to wear a bulky chamois, as well as a few of the new jacket options. All of Pearl's apparel uses very interesting fabric technology that feels soft to the touch and is quite comfortable to wear.
