Yeah, I'm kind of unsure of the math involved, because theoretically when it's helping the most is when your pedals are vertical, and the force is 0 Newtons, which theoretically you'd want to skip that point altogether. I don't really know the power output of cyclists or anything, but an oval chainring is an...more

Check out how a bottom out system on a trophy truck works. Pneumatic bump stop that is adjustable. Obviously meant to take a beating, but this is just a slimmed down version. As long as there is very little stiction on the air shaft assembly, you shouldn't feel it hit.

Added a comment about product review Hope Cassette 11-48 6/20/2017 5:22 PM

While not as offset as the SRAM upper pulley, the new XTR is an offset system that is designed to clear bigger cassettes. The b-tension was not maxed out and cleared the 48 comfortably. Without touching the b-tension from the Hope setup, the Sram cassette works flawless throughout the higher gears, where I experienced the problem on the Hope cassette. We've run this same setup on other bikes with the 9-46 E*13 and had zero issues, other than it being minorly clunky. The difference between the aluminum cluster and the steel cluster is also night and day on the Hope. Zero problems in the aluminum, yet as soon as it's in any one of the steel cogs, it fails. So either I have a cassette that is out of tolerance on the machining, or Hope's design is far enough from the "standard" which everybody else uses, that it doesn't work. The lack of help in resolving this problem is part of what prompted the review and quite frankly bums me out. I absolutely love the brakes, minus not getting a set of barbs or olives with them, and having to cut them back out of the hose in order to shorten my lines. The pro 4s on my DH bike perform like expected from Hope.

Added a comment about product review First Look, First Ride: SRAM GX Eagle Drivetrain - More Range For All 6/8/2017 9:03 AM

"I only have a handful of rides in on the GX Eagle group so far, but one thing is certain: the shifting performance feels almost the same as the pricier X01 group I had been running previously. Sure, the shift paddle lever might not be quite as smooth and shiny, but other than that tiny detail, I'd be hard pressed to tell the two groups apart in a blind test.

The transition between gears is quick and distinct, and although the jump to the 50-tooth cog is a touch slower than the shifting on the rest of the cassette, the chain still makes that eight-tooth jump with minimal hesitation. I haven't dropped a chain yet, and those inaugural rides included been plenty of rough and jarring trails — we'll see if that changes once some mud and grit is added to the mix, but given how well X01 Eagle performed, I don't expect GX to be any different. The long term performanc and durability of GX Eagle is the only question that remains unanswered, which is why I'll be putting plenty of miles in on it over the course of the summer to find out. "

HAHAHA.

One of the most basic segments, Schladming with Bryceland, is one of the most insane video parts ever made. I call it basic because it's a lot of GoPro and on a track the wasn't made specifically to be filmed. The raw energy and riding in that segment is next level f***ed. I can't imagine any other video part coming close to it for a while. It also felt like every segment of the movie outdid the one before it. Absolutely worth the hype and wait, this movie is going to stand on top for a long long time.

I used zip-strip, was pretty brutal. I'd recommend sanding the paint down as thin as possible before using the stripper, or getting it media blasted by a good paint shop. I sanded the aluminum lightly with 120 then 220 and finished with the scotch brite once I had the paint off.
